Animal emancipation follows a long line of other forms of emancipation. This book argues that 'wardship paternalism' models of participation represent a 'domination' contract—'rational' adults agree to treat each other as equals at the exclusion of others. These arrangements are similar to race, gender, and colonial contracts.
